The Continuum Collection considers slow changes over time. Mark spent many hours on each visit, observing and recording the ever changing quality of light around the oak tree.

With these pieces he recalls the effects those moments had on him. Each visit wasn’t necessarily a vastly difference experience but it was in and of itself unique.

There is something about spending time just observing and taking time that speaks to us universally. Is it something we each crave or simply a part of our nature?

The resin blocks look to capture the memories of the tree using physical parts of the oak tree, creating representations of the landscape the tree sat in.

The process involves making a tray and slowly building layers of resin, like strata, then carefully depositing different materials and elements in each. With each layer Mark seals in a memory, or physical artifact gathered from the landscape or tree.

The Continuum pieces use acrylic painting, gold leaf, copper leaf, tin leaf, inkjet transfer and charcoal made from the oak tree.
